Taylor Swift recently sent a handwritten note to Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy during her Oct. 19 Eras Tour stop in Miami, and it’s sparked a surprising reaction online. The scrutiny hasn’t focused on Portnoy’s controversial history—he’s faced accusations of misogynistic humor and sexual misconduct, and his vocal support for Donald Trump has stirred some division. Instead, fans were buzzing about something unexpected: Swift’s handwriting.
Delivered by her brother, Austin Swift, the note was penned on her signature “from the desk of TAYLOR SWIFT” stationery, complete with the fun detail “SONGWRITER/FELINE ENTHUSIAST” at the bottom. The message itself was heartfelt, with Swift writing, “Dave, I’m so happy to have you at the show tonight! I wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, and for having my back when a lot of people didn’t. I hope you have a blast tonight!! Love, Taylor.” Given the quick turnaround, she seemed to have squeezed in her signature at the very bottom, leaving little room between her last line and her printed signoff.
Though Portnoy’s fans were excited he received a personal message from Taylor, many were caught off guard by her handwriting style. Some fans admitted they were surprised, saying they had always imagined she’d have “beautiful handwriting.” Others jokingly remarked that her penmanship was actually “terrible,” with one commenter even saying, “I didn’t think anyone could have worse handwriting than me till I saw this!” A few speculated that it might not have been written by Swift at all, guessing it could have been the work of an assistant.
Still, Swift’s handwriting has been seen by fans before, notably in reprinted journal entries from special editions of her Lover album. When compared, the writing styles match closely, suggesting the note was indeed from her own hand. So while some fans might have been taken aback by her slightly rushed and informal note, others loved the personal touch, especially since it shows a different, more down-to-earth side of the global pop star.
