Sabrina Elba, wife of actor Idris Elba, recently shared a surprising reflection on her experience attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding. As a guest at one of the most-watched events in recent history, Sabrina admitted that while the day was unforgettable, there’s one thing she’d change if she could go back: her outfit.
In a candid chat on the Walking The Dog podcast, Sabrina described her wedding look—a full Gucci ensemble, with a white dress layered under a chic, black knee-length coat trimmed in Gucci’s signature pattern. “It was actually one of the first times a big brand was dressing me,” she explained, recalling how thrilled she was to be dressed by Gucci. “I was so excited and took whatever they gave me. But looking back, it might have been a little loud for a royal wedding,” she said with a laugh.
Her choice, while glamorous, left her wishing she’d gone for a more understated look. Still, Sabrina’s host, Emily Dean, was quick to defend the outfit, praising her for adding a fresh, modern touch to the occasion. “I think you looked like a fashion goddess,” Emily commented, calling Sabrina’s choice bold and refreshing.
Sabrina and Idris’s invitation to the royal wedding came through Idris’s friendship with Prince Harry, a bond that formed through the Prince’s Trust, a charity founded by Harry’s father, King Charles III. The friendship between Idris and Harry developed over shared events, with Idris even DJing at a few of Harry’s private gatherings. When Harry asked Idris to be the DJ for his wedding reception, Idris initially thought it was a joke but later agreed, honored to play a part in such a historic celebration.
Sabrina admitted that being a guest at such a major event felt surreal, especially as she and Idris arrived to find cameras capturing every moment. “I didn’t think it would feel like such a big deal,” she admitted. “Then suddenly my phone was going crazy with messages, and everyone back home was like, ‘We saw you on TV!’ I remember thinking, ‘Is this real?’”
The guest list included high-profile figures like Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, and David and Victoria Beckham, but Sabrina confessed she spent most of the event in awe that she and Idris were even there. She fondly remembered the day as a beautiful celebration and noted that Harry and Meghan were genuinely “good people,” adding that they created a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Now that the moment has passed, Sabrina looks back on it with nothing but gratitude—outfit reservations and all. Recently spotted at an event in London, she laughed about her Gucci choice, noting that her excitement had gotten the best of her. Even with a “loud” outfit, Sabrina remains proud of being part of such a historic day, calling it an experience she’ll always treasure.
